In “So Good,” Halsey sees love in her partner, who was her friend and proudly expresses her bisexuality. On June 9, 2022, Halsey confirmed that the track wasn’t about an ex-partner, to which she tweeted out:
guys stop texting your exes lmao this song isn’t about an ex that worked out later on! It’s about the friend that was always there for me, who I realized I was in love with one day. 🥺 text that angel instead!!!!!
On May 17, 2022, Halsey first teased a snippet of the track on TikTok while rehearsing for her summer 2022 tour. Just a few days later, she resurfaced a new snippet of the track, but her label wouldn’t allow her release it unless she faked a viral TikTok moment in a now-deleted video:
Basically, I have a song that I love that I want to release ASAP, but my record label won’t let me. […] My record company is saying I can’t release unless they can fake a viral moment on TikTok. Everything is marketing and they are doing this to every artist these days. I just want to release music, man and I deserve better tbh. I’m tired.
On May 31, 2022, Halsey’s label, Capitol Records, posted their support for her:
we love you and are here to support you. We are committing to a release of “So Good” on June 9th, 2022.
