On “dear god”, Barrett pleads to God about craving to fit in, and wanting to get into Heaven. Barrett tries to get God to acknowledge her and help her to feel better. The track was released just a few hours before the offical release of Barrett’s debut album, young forever, as the fourth single from the album.

Barrett admitted on June 8, 2022 that this is one of her favorite songs from her album. On September 15, Barrett Tweeted lyrics from the track, and posted the first audio snippet of the song on TikTok on September 17.
