“Becky’s So Hot” was first teased on various snippets posted to FLETCHER’s TikTok account. In these teaser snippets, Becky’s name was initially censored, leading to fan speculation about the subject of the song.

When asked who the song was about, FLETCHER has been quoted saying that she used the name as a pop trope:

I wasn’t setting out to create something that needed to be confirmed or speculated about. I just jumped at the opportunity to use a name that’s been a trope for decades.

Fans have speculated that the song is directed towards ex-girlfriend Shannon Beveridge’s current girlfriend Becky Missal. FLETCHER and Shannon’s break-up inspired The S(ex) Tapes – EP which was recorded during their quarantine during COVID-19, and Beveridge shot, directed and starred in music videos for the EP.

Although Beveridge initially distanced herself from the song, the pair has since put out limited edition t-shirts inspired by these lyrics.
