“12 Fractures” is first and foremost a song about going through a divorce. Vic Fuentes explained in an interview with Forbes that he was in the midst of “watching two of [his] best friends fall apart,” and was inspired to write the track.

One of the more downbeat tracks on the album, it reflects on a relationship which has since broken down, although with hints of nostalgia, seen in the “shortcuts to heaven through [their] eyes.” It’s a duet with indie pop singer chloe moriondo, who has cited Pierce The Veil as a huge influence in her music, even name-dropping them in a track from sophomore album Blood Bunny, titled “Favorite Band.”

In the Forbes interview, Vic Fuentes also shared that just before finishing the song, both his friends who were the subjects of the song had found new people, and gotten remarried.

And so that was when I finished the song. It was like once everybody was actually happy again. So it went from happy to sad to happy again. And then that’s the whole story of that song.
