Borderline

Tove Lo

“Borderline” is the first single from the upcoming reissue of Tove Lo’s fifth studio album, Dirt Femme. The song and its music video are a continuation of the “No One Dies From Love” storyline.

Co-written with longtime collaborators The Struts (Ludvig Söderberg and Jakob Jerlström), Tove Lo also wrote “Borderline” with Dua Lipa during their first writing session together.

It’s rumored that the track was intended to be included in Dua’s sophomore album Future Nostalgia, as well as in its reissue, but after the English singer completely scrapped it, Tove Lo, in a first time occurrence, decided to keep a song originally written for another artist and release it under her name.

Tove first hinted at “Borderline” on January 12. After spending the holidays in New Zealand, she shared that she would be heading back to the U.S. to shoot a music video. She later responded to a fan asking for more details that the video in question was for a song that was coming “pretty soon” and was a “sequel” to something fans had already seen.

On February 6, hours before kicking off the North American leg of her Dirt Femme tour in Nashville, Tove Lo announced that she would be performing “Borderline” for the very first time during the show. The song’s live debut was also streamed via her Instagram account. Its release date was revealed the following day.
