‘98 Braves

Morgan Wallen

In the 1990s, the Atlanta Braves were considered the best team in baseball and were expected to become a long-lasting dynasty. They did win one World Series, but no others, and for this reason they are historically considered a disappointing team considering their potential. In this song, Wallen compares one of their disappointing playoff exits (in this case, against the San Diego Padres in the 1998 NLCS despite winning a whopping 106 games in the regular season) to a romantic relationship that had a lot of potential but ended too soon.
