All Things End

All Things End

Hozier

In “All Things End,” the surface interpretation leans toward the end of a romantic relationship, where the finite nature of such things is seen and understood without any cynicism. The song also takes up the theme of heresy, with the speaker implying that the listener does not believe them. Hozier carries this theme heavily in meaning (not in a religious point of view) when he sings:

When people say that something is forever
Either way, it ends

He however urges people to embrace this ending and move on, as he sings:

We should not change our plans
When we begin again

According to the artist, the track is a taste of the 9 Circles of Hell more specifically the 6th Circle of Hell, Heresy.

The track was the first to be teased from the EP, on Hozier’s socials with a picture of himself and a caption stating “ALL THINGS END 🖤.”

This was followed by a snippet of the track in what seemed to be a live performance of the track.
