Only Girl (In The World)

Only Girl (In The World)

Rihanna

This song is reminiscent of S&M, where she seemingly sings of love and romance, yet the song is actually about being dominant in the bedroom.

Only Girl (In The World) is part of Rihanna’s fifth album, Loud.

An alternate take on this song is that she is saying she wants to be like Eve in the Garden of Eden. In the Book of Genesis the story goes that Adam and then Eve were the first two humans created by God, and that God had originally intended for the two to live together in Eden for eternity.

The “only one” Adam could have “ever loved” in that setting was Eve, who was literally “the only girl in the world” at that time. Also, Eve is said to have been made out of one of Adam’s ribs; hence she’s “the only one who knows [his] heart.” The visuals of the music video for the song seem to support this interpretation of it, with color filters and abstract imagery combining to depict a surreal natural paradise of grassy, flowery plains suggestive of the Garden of Eden.
