In an Instagram post celebrating the release of the single, Towa Bird commented on the story behind the song, as well as its creation.

I wanted this song to be something to dance to, but also show you parts of me that you’ve never seen before. Wild Heart is about my growth in love and relationships. I’m the cowboy who meets a girl, gets caught in her grip, and to my surprise, becomes completely devoted to her. This song is about the person that I once was and the person l’ve grown into. Writing with Alisa, Thomas and Luna was a dream. We spent a couple of days in Thomas and Luna’s studio bashing ideas ‘round the room and alas, Wild Heart was born.
