“Upside Down” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks beginning in September 1980, making it the biggest solo hit of Diana Ross' career. It also topped the US R&B and dance music charts.
The song also topped the charts in four countries overseas, and reached the top 5 in several others including the UK.
In honor of the song, its album’s tracklist is printed upside-down (with track #1 on the bottom and the later tracks above).
