Bad Omen

Bad Omen

Megadeth

“Bad Omen” is another dark and wicked track off of Megadeth’s second record. The song begins with a semi-melodic introduction accompanied by menacing sinister guitars and captures the theme of occultism with thrashing heavy riffs.

The lyrics are about watching a toast-to-the-Devil ceremony where a group of people is worshipping and inviting Satan to give them his blessing. Dave Mustaine explained more about the song in an interview with Chicago Tribune:

“Bad Omen” is like two happy campers who have stumbled onto a satanic orgy in the middle of the woods, they see these fools waiting around for Satan’s blessing, and like a line in the song says ‘Down comes the worst.’ That song is very Aesop-ish. It’s got a moral at the end of it. A lot of the songs do have a moral. At first, it’s ‘Oh, this is so neat-o to get in trouble and all,’ but at the end it says ‘You’re gonna get burned.’

In the album’s liner notes is listed that “Bad Omen” and “Black Friday” were inspired by Dijon Carruthers who was the band’s drummer for a short time.
