“Love Like This” is ZAYN’s return to the music scene after not releasing original material since his album Nobody Is Listening and his duet with Ingrid Michaelson, “To Begin Again,” both dropped in 2021. It also marks the singer’s first release under Mercury Records after separating ways from RCA Records in October 2021 amids the singer’s split with Gigi Hadid and legal battle issues involving Gigi’s mother, Yolanda Hadid.

Departing from the R&B sound of his last project, “Love Like This” embraces an upbeat UK Pop and Garage sound, with the theme revolving around entering a new commited and supportive relationship without worrying about the risks.

In anticipation to the song’s release, ZAYN made an appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, in which he described the song as:

A standalone song. It’s just a summer jam. It’s a good vibe. It just feels like summer."

A first preview of this new era was revealed through his Instagram in the last week of June, 2023, followed by a series of teasers throughout the week and the single announcement on July 14, 2023.
