Brother of Sleep

Brother of Sleep

Soap&Skin

The name of the last track of Soap&Skin debut album Lovetune for Vacuum might be another reference to Thanatos, the personification of Death in Greek mythology, which is also the name of the third track on the album.

Thanatos was the twin brother of Hypnos, personification of Sleep in Greek Mythology. “Sleep” is the name of the album’s opening track, so Plaschg could be using Hypnos (Sleep) and Thanatos (Brother of Sleep) as fraternal links to bookend the album.

The winged gods Thanatos (Death) and Hypnos (Sleep) carry the body of Sarpedon from the battlefield of Troy. The pair are depicted as armoured warriors with crested helms. (Courtesy of Theoi Project and The MET)
