“Bongos” is the second collaboration between Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion following their collaborative August 2020 track “WAP,” which went number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 and stirred up controversy for its very explicit lyrics.
The song was first revealed on September 5, 2023, via Cardi’s social media, along with the cover art and a pre-save link. The subsequent day, the two female rappers also revealed an alternative cover art for the single via Instagram. A short trailer of the music video was released six hours before the release of the song via Cardi’s Instagram page.
