19th Hour

19th Hour

Griff

On “19th Hour”, Griff describes the desperation felt towards the end of a relationship, when words are no longer heartfelt, and are now being used as platitudes, having lost their original meaning. In her own words:

The song’s essentially about the words “I love you” being almost the most hurtful thing you can say when you say it as a last resort. You’re not saying “I’m sorry” or you’re not saying “I love you” because you mean it, you’re saying it in the 19th hour, right at the last minute, just because you want to patch things over or you want to forget about it, or you just want to get through the night or something.

The title is a play on the phrase eleventh hour, meaning “the latest possible time before it is too late”. Griff chose to call the song “19th Hour” because “11th hour just didn’t really sing as nice”.
