Can’t Catch Me Now

Olivia Rodrigo

“Can’t Catch Me Now” plays during the credits for The Hunger Games prequel movie The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Rodrigo revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that the lyrics are written from the perspective of the character Lucy Gray, played by Rachel Zegler:

It was a wonderful experience to try to write something from the character of Lucy Gray. She is a character that I feel very connected to.

The song references many moments in the story, the main point of the song being that Lucy Gray haunts Coriolanus Snow, even years after she’s out of his life. The song’s tone is as much taunting as it is mysterious. Its ending suggests that Katniss Everdeen becomes another example of how Lucy Gray continues to affect his life.

On November 13, 2023, Rodrigo released a music video for the song. It shows her in the locations of the movie, mainly running through the field and sitting in the cabin. It also features clips of Snow and Baird in the movie.
