cut my hair

Tate McRae

On “cut my hair”, the intro track to THINK LATER, McRae sings boastfully about changing up her ways, making her ex miss her, and wanting to lose her past self. Multiple times in the conceited love/revenge track, McRae mentions being done with feeling sensitive and melancholic, and wanting to get back with her ex to make him regret losing her. The cutting of her hair symbolizes her shedding her bitter old self and transforming into a more confident person – a theme that continues to be explored through the rest of the record. The track also showcases a sonic shift between McRae’s debut album and this album, from rock-pop to R&B influenced pop.
