Nona Gaye

Artist

Nona Gaye is a singer, model, and actress active in the 1990s and 2000s. The daughter of Marvin Gaye, she launched her singing career in 1992 with the solo album Love For The Future and its pop-dominant lead single “I’m Overjoyed.” Its follow-up was the serene ballad “The Things That We All Do For Love.”

Following her solo debut, Gaye became professionally and romantically involved with Prince. The two collaborated multiple times, but their pairing was most successful on the single “Love Sign.”

Gaye popped up again in 1995 on a Motown Records tribute album for her father, performing “Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler).”

Unbeknownst to many, Nona Gaye actually made her acting debut first in the 1989 comedy Harlem Nights, but her small role was cut from the film before its premiere. She would resurface on the silver screen in 2001’s Ali. Her biggest role was in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, cast as Zee, the role left tragically vacant by the untimely death of Aaliyah. Gaye shined in the role when both films debuted in 2003, and has continued taking on projects intermittently since.
