Kindred The Family Soul of Philadelphia are Fatin Dantzler and Aja Graydon, a husband and wife duo from Philadelphia, Pa and Washington, DC., who began performing together at the Black Lily Soul Showcase in Philly, whose notable alum member is Jill Scott. Word started to spread from there and the duo eventually got noticed by Steve McKeever, the founder of Hidden Beach Recordings, home to Scott who convinced her label, Hidden Beach/Epic, to sign the singing duo in 2001.

They released their critically acclaimed debut album, Surrender to Love on February 23, 2003. Their lead single, “Far Away,” which became a hit on urban adult contemporary radio and their follow up, “Stars,” was released in 2004.

The duo’s second effort, September 2005’s In This Life Together, charted at No. 41 on Billboard’s US R&B charts. Their third album, October 2008’s Arrival, the duo released two singles, “House of Love” and “Just The Way You Are,” debuting at No. 7 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Subsequent follow-up albums, July 2011’s Love Has No Recession, featuring two singles, “Magic Happen” and “You Got Love” with a guest appearance by Snoop Dogg and June 2014’s A Couple of Friends, both released on Purpose/Shanachie Records.

Another subsequently released album, August 2016’s Legacy of Love, featured the lead single, “All My People,” which perfectly depicts the message of love, solidarity and unity from the husband and wife team. The duo also recently released their seventh studio album, March 2021’s Auntie & Unc, with the new single, “The Best Things” still maintaining mature tones and old-school appeal with songs of tenderness and Black optimism like “Break It Down” working with long-time collaborator Vidal Davis.
