New York City-based band Morningsiders crafts melodic, narrative indie folk alternately tinged with bluegrass, jazz, and pop.
Led by Magnus Ferguson, Reid Jenkins, and Robert Frech, the group formed at Columbia University in 2012. Their song Empress, in addition to being featured in a Starbucks commercial, went viral in 2015 and topped Spotify’s Viral 50. The band’s first EP, ‘unfocus,’ demonstrates an impressionistic Americana sound that emphasizes harmonies, folk instrumentation, and unconventional percussion.
