Empress is a single originally released in 2012 by the Morningsiders, who at the time were college students at Columbia College. The song features upbeat melodic strings behind musings about past loves.
Empress received new life nearly three years after it was published when it was included in the premiere of the Hulu show Difficult People. It then reached the top of Spotify’s “US Viral 50” chart, gaining tens of thousands of plays within hours.
