Phillipa Soo is an actress and singer based in the United States. She is most famous for originating the role of Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton in the Broadway musical, Hamilton. Soo was nominated for the 2016 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for this role.

After leaving Hamilton in July 2016, Soo went on to play the title role in the upcoming Broadway show Amélie, opening on Broadway in April 2017.

Soo graduated from Julliard’s acting program in 2012 and in the same year, was cast in her first theater role as Natasha Rostova in Off-Broadway production of Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812. Soo left the cast before the show transitioned to Broadway, to join Hamilton.

In 2013, she was also cast in a small recurring role in season two of the NBC television series, Smash, about the New York musical theater community.

Soo comes from an Asian-American background with a first generation Chinese father and Southern Illinois born and raised mother. Her mother was involved in the arts, so she was encouraged to pursue an acting career.

Since February 2016, she has been engaged to fellow actor Steven Pasquale.
