Children of the Revolution

Children of the Revolution

T. Rex

Even though it didn’t reach #1 in the UK charts (after four singles in a row that did), “Children Of The Revolution” was a great success, reaching #2. It was released as a single in 1972, and never included in any of the band studio albums.

This song was recorded at John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Ascot Sound Studios specifically for the film Born To Boogie, a documentary about T. Rex directed by Ringo Starr. Ringo also played one of the track’s drums, and Elton John played piano.

The revolutionary message behind the lyrics seem to be less about a proper political-economical revolution and more about a revolution in behavior brought about by rock and roll and media personalities, such as Bolan himself, Bowie, the Beatles and the Stones.

So, in a sense, this is the opposite message from Gil Scott Heron’s “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”.
