“Treading Water” is the second track on Alex Clare’s debut album, The Lateness of the Hour . It is the third single of the album, alongside “Up All Night” and “Too Close”. It peaked at #62 on the German Singles Chart.

The song is about how a new lady in his life who reminds him of another from a past relationship that he is still obsessed with an unable to move forward from. Hence he’s “treading water”.
