Cool Girl

Cool Girl

Tove Lo

“"Cool Girl” is an electropop song written by Tove Lo, Ludvig Söderberg, and Jakob Jerlström, with its production handled by the latter two as the production duo The Struts. Lyrically, the song is about an invitation to form a non-traditional and non-monogamous romance, in which the singer describes herself as a “cool girl” interested in an open relationship. According to Lo, the song’s main lyrical theme was inspired by a scene and monologue from the feature film Gone Girl (2014), where the character of Amy Elliott-Dunne (portrayed by Rosamund Pike) “goes from being a victim to a psycho.”

The track comes after she told Fuse at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards that she had finished recording her new album and described it as:

There’s definitely a different sound to it — we’ve gone a little bit more dark techno vibe with it, some of it. You know, blended with pop.

Lorde has expressed her excitement for the track tweeting:

Tove uploaded various teasers onto social media prior to the release of the track.
