“Issues” is an upbeat anthem about a relationship between people who have “issues,” but love each other enough to work past them.

Although the track is Julia Michaels' debut single, it’s not her first visit to the pop charts. She wrote “Good For You” for Selena Gomez, “Sorry” for Justin Bieber, and “All In My Head (Flex)” for Fifth Harmony. She also collaborated on Zedd’s True Colors album and lent her vocals to Kygo’s “Carry Me,” which she sung at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The track gained lots of buzz after her friend and studio buddy Selena Gomez posted an Instagram video of them dancing to the track.

On March 20, 2017, this single had its TV debut in a live performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, thereby also marking the first TV performance for Julia Michaels.

The music video was released on March 7, 2017.

On November 28th, 2017, the song was officially nominated under the Song of the Year category, making it Michaels' first solo single as a lead artist to receive a Grammy nomination.
