All Black Neighborhood

Consequence (Ft. Royce da 5'9")

“All Black Neighborhood” is a single from Consequence, featuring Royce Da 5'9". It was the most recent since Consequence’s Grammy performance with group A Tribe Called Quest, just eight days earlier to the release of this song. It contains two samples: LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out”, and The J.B.’s “Pass The Peas”.

The title expresses the situations of their deteriorated neighborhoods, Consequence growing up in the Queens of New York and Royce in Detroit. They wish to live in a place where it is still people of the same race living there while letting it be a place to make a sufficient salary and free of criminal activity, with Consequence specifically stating that he wants it to be a place where he can raise his children, nobody being in the “red”, and can make good money at the same time.

“All Black Neighborhood” was premiered without warning through Consequence’s SoundCloud and Spotify on February 20, 2017, by his record label Company of Greatness.

Music critic sites such as 2dopeboyz, Complex, and HotNewHipHop gave the song generally favorable reviews, citing its “slick soul” sample and having a “bright guitar and horns, creating a nostalgic backdrop for Consequence’s effortless raps”. Complex also noted the production, calling it “bombastic” and “fun” simultaneously, but respectively. HotNewHipHop’s Trevor Smith noted Royce’s voice surprisingly flowing rather smoothly over the “sunny” production.
