“Let Me Out” is a cry of desperation in Trump’s America that plays with religious imagery as a source of perverted salvation.

The song features Pusha T and gospel singer Mavis Staples. Calling from a pub, Damon Albarn explained that most of the song was written during a particularly long train ride departing from New York City. Pusha T said he was approached in spring 2016 and had no hesitation in collaborating with Gorillaz' and wrote his verses about a theoretical Trump presidency.

“Let Me Out” premiered on Beats 1 Radio on April 6, 2017 with Zane Lowe. Google Play accidentally released the song about five hours before it was meant to air, though it was taken down quickly.

In the studio version of this song, the words “Obama”, “Orlando”, and “Trump” in the first verse are all censored via the car horn noise that was featured in other music videos and songs from this album, but the words were not censored in the London Printworks live performance.
