“Love So Soft” is Kelly Clarkson’s lead single from her eighth studio album, Meaning of Life. The track is a soul-trap anthem, very different from the usual mainstream pop sound of Clarkson’s previous releases.

Elvis Duran, during an interview with Kelly, said that her voice on “Love So Soft” has attitude:

It’s attitude, it’s the soul we’ve been hearing since before Aretha Franklin (…). You can take one note and make it like something so soulful (…), it sounds so good!

Forbes Magazine compares “Love So Soft” to the unprecedented chart success of “Mercy”, performed by the Welsh singer Duffy :

“Love So Soft” picks up where Duffy’s “Mercy” left off almost a decade ago, finding direct inspiration in the past and placing those sounds into a more modern context.
