Lady Grinning Soul

Lady Grinning Soul

David Bowie

The closing track on Bowie’s 1973 Aladdin Sane, this track is a very romantic piano ballad. It is often cited as being inspired from David’s first meeting with soul singer Claudia Lennear, who is also said to be the inspiration behind the song “Brown Sugar” by The Rolling Stones.

According to Mike Garson—who plays piano throughout Aladdin Sane—the song is

about as romantic as it gets … French with a little Franz Liszt thrown in there."
