Hallo Spaceboy

Hallo Spaceboy

David Bowie

“Hallo Spaceboy” was the third commercially released single from David Bowie’s 1995 album Outside.

The album version of the song features an industrial-goes-pop sound, characteristic of what Nine Inch Nails sounded like at the time. “In my mind, it was like Jim Morrison meets industrial,” Bowie said of the song. “When I heard it back, I thought, ‘Fuck me. It’s like metal Doors.’ It’s an extraordinary sound.”

When the song was released as a single/to radio, it was in a remixed form by the Pet Shop Boys. The commercial version of “Spaceboy” replaced the song’s sonic aggressiveness with gleaming disco. It’s this version which reached #12 on the UK charts.
