“Prelude” is the first track on N.W.A’s last album Efil4Zaggin, released in May 1991, two-and-a-half years after Straight Outta Compton and nine months after the 100 Miles and Runnin' EP. Efil4Zaggin was also their first (and thus far) only full-length studio album without Ice Cube, who left N.W.A in 1989 after receiving no payment for his songwriting on their releases as well as Eazy-E’s Eazy-Duz-It and The D.O.C.’s No One Can Do It Better.
