This song is about Beyoncé and JAY-Z, but specifically, Beyoncé’s love for her hometown of Houston, where the title comes from, as 713 is the area code for Houston. Beyoncé and JAY-Z, however, both talk about remaining love, while Hov raps about his growing love for his wife and how they went from admiring each other to being married.

The second part of the hook, done by Beyoncé, parodies the hook from Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s song “Still D.R.E.”, a hook that Jay-Z actually wrote.

I’m representin' for them gangstas all across the world (Still)
Hittin' them corners in them lo-lo’s, girl (Still)
Takin' my time to perfect the beat
And I still got love for the streets, it’s the D.R.E.

The track also samples a song by the australian neo-soul band Hiatus Kaiyote, called “The World it Softly Lulls.”.
