“Da Art of Storytellin' (Pt. 1)” sees Big Boi and André relaying two distinct experiences: Big Boi dealing with a promiscuous woman he encountered and André telling a tragic tale about a girl from his past. André gave some insight into his verse:

Every story that I’ve ever told is either triggered by something that I’ve been through or something that someone I know has experienced. So a lot of times, it’s based on something real.

When me and Erykah [Badu] were still together, one of Erykah’s friends in Dallas had a young daughter who was real intelligent. She was in school one day and the teacher asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, and the answer she gave was, “alive.” I always thought that was so cool so I wove it into the story I was telling.

The song was remixed and released as a single with a verse from Slick Rick telling his own story of a crazy relationship. The single peaked at #67 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

The addictive beat was introduced to a new audience in 2013 when J. Cole used it for his song “LAnd Of The Snakes”.
