Hollaback Girl

Hollaback Girl

Gwen Stefani

“Hollaback Girl” was released as the third single from Gwen Stefani’s album Love. Angel. Music. Baby. The song was spurred after Courtney Love made a comment about Gwen Stefani in Seventeen magazine:

Being famous is just like being in high school. But I’m not interested in being the cheerleader. I’m not interested in being Gwen Stefani. She’s the cheerleader, and I’m out in the smoker’s shed.

Gwen already had history with Courtney; C-Love made it pretty obvious that she had a relationship of some sort with Gwen’s husband and Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. L.A.M.B. needed an “attitude track,” so Gwen took the cheerleader comment to heart and made a bass-heavy high school diss track dressed as a cheerleader.
