On “I Try,” Trippie Redd details a rocky relationship and how he tries to stay on good terms with his girl throughout all that they’ve been through.

The song became the center of controversy after Kid Buu posted to Instagram on September 21, 2019, claiming that Trippie had stolen “I Try” from him and remade it, pointing to a song on his computer titled “I TRY – 1.0,” which was created on March 6th, 2019. Kid Buu then played a portion of the song to show the similarities between the two tracks. Later the same day, Buu released his version of the track, “I TRY / ++ LuV $ick.”

Trippie would later explain his side of the situation during an Instagram livestream, claiming that his own version of the song had existed since 2018, before Kid Buu’s supposed “1.0” version of the track. Trippie also claims that Kid Buu had originally wanted to be on his song, but Trippie “kicked him off the song ‘cause he was so damn trash.”
