Epiphany (I’m Leaving)

Chrisette Michele

“Epiphany (I’m Leaving)” became the lead single and title track to Chrisette Michele’s second and best-selling album Epiphany, thus becoming arguably her signature track. Written by Ne-Yo and Chuck Harmony, who produced the majority of the album in the same lyrical theme as “Epiphany”, it was released on January 27, 2009, charting #89 on the Billboard Hot 100, #14 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs Chart, and #40 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart, her only release to receive recognition there to date. Chrisette drew inspiration from her then-feud with former manager and boyfriend, now-husband Doug Ellison, according to her interview for Billboard Magazine’s website. The music video, included at #49 on BET’s Notarized Top Videos of 2009, features Drake as a video game-playing, out-late boyfriend that Michele finally decides to kick out; the two would share vocals together on the next year’s “Aston Martin Music”.
