Through the Wire

Rod Wave

On “Through the Wire,” Rod Wave reflects on a car accident, in addition to drug abuse, that almost ended his life. In June of 2020, the artist’s Corvette C8 crashed into a pole at a rate of speed over 100 miles per hour, resulting in severe lacerations and internal brain bleeding. In response to the traumatic occurrence, Wave recounts the accident and discusses his addiction to prescription cough syrup.

The song’s title is a reference to Kanye West’s “Through the Wire,” which was created following a 2002 car crash. The accident left West with a fractured jaw, leading him to record the song with his mouth still wired shut.
