Daft Punk

Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem is the animated imagining of the concept album Discovery which was released in March 2001.

After the album was produced, Daft Punk presented the idea of it being made into an animated film to Leiji Matsumoto, a Japanese animator most famous for directing the space-opera Space Battleship Yamato in 1974, and the two 1977 TV series which Daft Punk were fans of: Space Pirate Captain Harlock and Galaxy Express 999.

The film cost $4million to produce, eventually being released in May, 2003.

It is essentially the whole Discovery album, with no additional dialogue, scoring a The Man Who Fell to Earth-esque story about aliens disguised as humans who become famous.
