Killer MC

Killer MC

Chip

This is Chip’s first diss-track towards Croydon rapper Stormzy. Chip released “Killer MC” 20-minutes before releasing the much more personal diss “Flowers”.

Chip and Stormzy’s friendship can be tracked back to 2014 when Stormzy featured on Chip’s songs “I’m Fine”, as well as their collaboration in 2015 titled “Hear Dis”.

Animosity between the two former friends reportedly grew following Chip’s verse on “Waze” from his Young Adz and Skepta joint album: Insomnia. Shots were sent as he said:

You ain’t been platinum, silver or gold, you ain’t even been bronze, you div (‘Low it)
You ain’t even done ten years in this ting
'Round here we don’t hear you’re a king, man will take your throne

Some believe, in actuality, Chip was replying to Mez’s diss, “Go Freestyle”.

Stormzy sent back with an in-directed shot at Chip on his feature on Tion Wayne & Dutchavelli’s hit “I Dunno”. He addressed the rumours of Chip’s dig on Waze, as well as discussing the sales Insomnia did:

Is he sending for me? I dunno
What them boy there sell first week? I dunno

Minutes prior to the drop of Killer MC and Flowers, Chip released a video from June of Stormzy and three others leaving his property after failing to pull up on him. It was just Chip’s brother and sister at home at the time.

A full timeline of the 2020 beef can be viewed on the r/grime subreddit as well as a condensed version in the song bio of “Flowers”.
