It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday

It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday

G.C. Cameron

“It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” is the 10th and final track on G.C. Cameron’s eponymous album.

The single was released in 1975 and is a notable track in the critically acclaimed film Cooley High. In the movie, the song is used to express the students' emotions that many students feel when high school ends and they must move on. However, in the end, that takes a turn when Cochise gets beaten to death near the ending: the scene where Preach sees his friend’s ceremony from afar represents the broader image of someone leaving someone/something behind (i.e. when someone dies).

When The Spinners (an R&B group of which he took part in the 70’s), decided to leave Motown Records, Cameron decided to stick around and pursue a solo career… and this was the first single he put out.

SIDE NOTE: Boyz II Men made a cover of this song… and they helped popularize it.
