Sweet Dream

Sweet Dream

Alessia Cara

“Sweet Dreams” is a whole other body of emotions and messages. This time, Alessia tackles the topic of insomnia. The new single works as the counterpart to “Shapeshifter.”

Alessia explains that

[Sweet Dream] represents the hardship + helplessness surrounding my last couple of years. This one’s particularly about my insomnia and the endless hoops my brain jumps through at night while I’m supposed to be sleeping! never fun!

She also describes the song as “delirious, vulnerable, and whimsical.”

In an interview with ABC News, she talks about her struggle with falling asleep. Her entire life, not much had been going on. It was imperative that she expressed this in song and through lyrics.

The production is almost similar to Alessia’s earlier tracks “Trust My Lonely” and “Out of Love,” but it is distinctive in its own right. An accompanying music video was released simultaneously with the single.

On August 20, 2021 she released various lullaby versions of the track, including a vocals-only, instrumental-only, and piano mix.
