Billie Jean

Billie Jean

Dawn Richard

“Billie Jean” is the fourth track on Dawn Richard’s sophomore album, Blackheart.

The track can be interpreted as a feminist answer track to Michael Jackson’s 1983 hit, [“Billie Jean [https://genius.com/Michael-jackson-billie-jean-lyrics].” On the track, Jackson chronicles a woman who accuses him of fathering her child and essentially using her womanly prowess to scheme for money.

Richard’s version takes a different spin on the popular tune. Rather than using a man for financial dependency, Billie Jean is a woman who uses men for sexual gratification.
