Charlie Puth first shared “Light Switch” on his TikTok on September 16, 2021, showing the production of the song and gained over 20 million views in less than 24 hours. On September 17, 2021, Puth shared another TikTok continuing to show the production of the song teasing a few more lyrics of the song along with a pre-save link, stating if it got 500,000 pre-saves, he’d release it.

Puth had hinted towards the song since May 27, 2021, putting the lightbulb emoji in his bio on his social media and tweeting it on Twitter several times.

On January 18, 2022, Charlie Puth revealed the artwork for “Light Switch” via Instagram and Twitter. The song was released alongside its music video on January 20, 2022.
