On “First Time In A Long Time,” Ye raps about his faith in God and his feelings stemming from his divorce, while Soulja reflects on his humble beginnings and the hard work he put in to achieve success.

This collaboration comes after the fiasco surrounding Soulja’s contributions to Ye’s 2021 song “Remote Control,” which Soulja recorded a verse for.

Soulja teased a collaboration with Ye via Instagram, showing text messages from Ye asking Soulja for a feature for Donda 2.

The song was debuted during the Donda 2 album live stream on February 22, 2022. A more finished version containing punch-in lines on Ye’s verses was previewed in the short documentary LAST WEEK on October 10, 2022.
