“For the Night” was issued as Chlöe’s fourth solo release intended for her debut album. She’s joined by American rapper Latto, making it their second collaboration following Chloe x Halle’s remix for their 2020 single “Do It.”

She previewed the song during a livestream along with her 2022 single “Surprise” and “Cheatback,” the later ending up making the album.

During a Twitter Space, she revealed the romantic lyrics were written about rapper and collaborator Gunna, with whom romance rumors started fueling after they were spotted together several times throughout 2020. She recalls putting it down after his appearance on The Breakfast Club, in which he responded to these rumors claiming he wasn’t ready to settle down.
