Obsessed

Mariah Carey

“Obsessed” was the lead single off Mariah Carey’s twelfth studio album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, which dropped on June 16, 2009, just only one month later after Eminem took multiple shots at the singer, as also her ex-husband Nick Cannon on the track “Bagpipes from Baghad” from his sixth studio album, Relapse. After that, Cannon continued the beef by releasing a diss track, as also challenging the rapper to a boxing match that never actually happened.

It is no strange that the Detroit MC has referenced the New York native superstar multiple times, starting from The Eminem Show cuts like “Superman” and “When The Music Stops” along with the December 2006 track “Jimmy Crack Corn”.
Carey’s “Clown” was the official response to the 2002 subliminals.

Over a decade later, “Obsessed” has saw a renewed interest thanks to a viral TikTok meme of a 13-year old Reese Hardy dancing to the song while sobbing. The singer herself also joined the challenge, when her private car broke down on the way to the Fresh Air Fund-operated Camp Mariah, which she started back in the mid-90’s.
