Artist

Divine Ikubor (born May 1, 2000 in Benin City, Nigeria) is a Nigerian singer and songwriter better known as Rema.

Rema honed his singing and rapping skills as a youngster, and his musical career began in 2018 when he uploaded a short video of himself freestyling to D. Prince’s song, “Gucci Gang.” In 2019, D'Prince helped him sign to Jonzing World Records after hearing Rema’s freestyle. Rema intended to focus on hip-hop, but he explained how he got into Afrobeats in a Rolling Stone, interview, stating:

I was like, I had to prove myself. At that time, I had no Afrobeats songs—strictly hip-hop, strictly trap. D’Prince started pitching some Afrobeats to me, and I started vibing.

After signing to Jonzing World Records, Rema released his debut project on March 22, 2019, Rema. “Iron Man,” from the EP, was a commercial success and made the cut on Barrack Obama’s 2019 playlist, further increasing Rema’s fame. Rema recorded two more EPs, Freestyle and Bad Commando, which highlighted his versatility with tracks like “Lady” and “Boulevard.”

On March 25, 2022, Rema released his long-awaited debut album Rave & Roses with features from 6LACK, Chris Brown, AJ Tracey and Yseult. The album was a huge success thanks to songs such as “Calm Down” and “Soundgasm.”

Rema has a strong online presence as evidenced by the tremendous online reaction to his releases. His sexually charged songs and cultural presence have made him not just famous, but also one of Nigeria’s and the world’s most beloved artist.
