Artist

Isaac Gordon, professionally known as 1K Phew and formerly as Future Kid (b. 1995), is a Christian rapper from Stone Mountain, Georgia. He’s mainly known for his eccentric style and his versatility, frequently represented by a mix in his music of melodic flows and rap cadences that the artist himself originally called “NEW CHUUCH”. Phew cited several Atlanta-based rappers and groups, including OutKast, Dungeon Family and Lil Jon as his main influences.

As teenagers, Phew and his friends divided themselves between services in church and illegal activities, until a failed weed deal lead them to get shot at, with the artist barely making it out of the situation alive. After the incident, Gordon decided to fully commit himself to Christ, and soon started recording and releasing free mixtapes, which also saw him working with well-established producers in Atlanta, such as Zaytoven and Metro Boomin.

In the summer of 2017, Phew received the opportunity to feature on Lecrae’s song “Hammer Time,” off the album All Things Work Together. His standout performance on the track gained him more recognition and helped him increase his fan base significantly, so much that he eventually went on tour with Lecrae himself and Aha Gazelle and signed with Reach Records in October of the same year: in the process, he became the label’s first “homegrown” artist, as Reach has its headquarters in Atlanta.

Apart from re-releasing his 2017 mixtape Never Too Late, Phew also put out one EP, Georgia Shore (2018), as well as two other mixtapes, What’s Understood and What’s Understood 2 (both in 2019), with Reach Records. He and Lecrae also worked on a whole collaborative project, named No Church in a While, which was released in December 2021.
