The Mountain Brothers

Artist

The Mountain Brothers are a Chinese-American rap trio, consisting of CHOPS (Scott Jung), Peril-L (Christopher Wang) and Styles Infinite (Steve Wei). The group originated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania while all three members were studying at Penn State University. They gained fame in 1996 after winning a national singing contest sponsored by Sprite, leading to radio exposure and a contract with major label Ruffhouse Records.

After artistic and financial conflicts with Ruffhouse, the group formally disbanded in 2003; CHOPS remains the only member working full-time in music, collaborating with the likes of Kanye West and Chamillionaire.

The group has been well-known for refusing to sample other music in their tracks, opting instead to write and produce their songs from scratch.
